Black Moor: The conquering
16/09/09 || Trauma
Good day, g’day, guten tag, los huevos me estan sudando. I’m not in a particularly good mood this day because shit loves to happen to me in big corn and peanut chunks. It’s not even because I have to review this band today, and the review shan’t even be affected. You should all know if you don’t already, that I have displayed my love for Iron Maiden on more than one occasion. Seriously? No. I don’t really love Maiden all that much whatsoever. However, to save face, I can respect the impact they had on people and music in general.
Shit intro done, does that automatically make this music bad that I must bring up Iron Maiden so quickly? No, but it(the band)‘s certainly not going anywhere. Not going up on the charts, not going down the drain. They play NWOBHM like only a group of Nova Scotians could.
First impressions on my penis: the production is pretty light and lacking in heaviness. The guitars are split left and right, rhythm and lead (not an issue, I’m just pointing it out), and the drums just don’t have the power. Another negative, the singer. I’m not knocking him big time here, but he’s not a great fit like Bruce Dickinson was to this style. He sounds like he’s just barely old enough to drink alcohol. They literally copy everything from Iron Maiden. The melodies, rhythm, bass galloping and sound. I can’t really say if they actually steal riffs from said band, but I’m hoping they have the balls to be original. On their MySpace bio it’s mentioned they are a cross between Iron Maiden and Megadeth. The Iron Maiden comparison is a dead giveaway, but I’ve only heard a couple riffs max that would be confused as Megadave riffage, mostly prevalent in track two. Maybe the comparison was because the vocals are subpar?
Second impressions are the same as the first. Except now I’m listening to the lyrics more. There’s another negative. Beasts and swords and those kinda lyrics got old, 20 years ago. Get a dedicated singer with a bit more conviction and personality to his voice. It’d even help out with the lyrics issue. I don’t meant that as an insult, but it would certainly help to make the music sound a bit less… anemic, I suck with comparisons? This isn’t bad – I can tap my toes to this stuff – but the hand not once goes near my penis.
I could listen to this music again and again and it’s not going to change my opinions now as I’ve made my third and fourth spins through. They are adept at their instruments, they know what they want to play and play it well. But overall the music leaves no reason to remember it longer than a few minutes after it’s over. This group of boys needs to improve a couple things lest they drop down to becoming a stack of pancake fucken sugar titties (to quote our awesome scoring system). For now they’re resembling good. It could be the alcohol or the lack of sex, but I stand by the score.
